Vaujany – a ski paradise at the foot of the Grandes Rousses Vaujany (1350 m)

Located at a height of 1,250 metres the small resort of Vaujany, an outlying station of the Alpe d’Huez ski area, is one of the richest villages in France - thanks to the construction of a hydroelectric power station down in the valley. Substantial investment in the resort means that Vaujany now boasts superb modern leisure facilities whilst the village, with its quaint narrow streets, still manages to retain its authentic, traditional charm. An ideal destination for families, the resort is on different levels with each section easily accessible by a series of modern escalators. There is a free underground car park and a wide choice of pizzerias, restaurants and bars. Vaujany is also a great place for a leisurely stroll or to spend time browsing in the various shops. And if it is spectacular views you are after, you can enjoy superb panoramic views from here of the two glaciers: the Pic Blanc, rising to 3,330 metres and L‘Etendard at 3,470 metres.

Hi-tech link to the Alpe d’Huez ski area

Vaujany is connected, via its state-of-the-art gondola lift system (one of the most modern in France) to the vast Alpe d'Huez ski area which caters for winter sports fans of all tastes and abilities. You can reach the 2,800 metre-high Dôme des Petites Rousses fron Vaujany and from there you then have direct access to the entire network of pistes in the Alpe d’Huez area and around 120 downhill runs of varying levels of difficulty. Younger skiers are always very welcome in Vaujany – it has an excellent ski school as well as childcare facilities for those still too young to venture out on skis.

As well as great skiing, guests staying in and around Vaujany will find a good range of other leisure activities on offer. There is always plenty going on, both in winter and in summer, for example ice-skating, archery, fishing and tennis. For those in need of pampering there are also relaxing spa treatments on offer.
