Sun and snow full in a breathtaking landscape
Throughout the winter, the Les Contamines ski area enjoys abundant natural snow and sunshine. The alpine weather, which comes from the Mont-Blanc massif and the neighboring peaks, ensures an optimal winter sports climate. The permanently good snow conditions are additionally secured by 210 snow cannons, which are distributed over the whole area. Thanks to the early use of snow cannons starting in November, optimum snow conditions can be guaranteed at the beginning of the season in mid-December. For example, skiers in Les Contamines can pursue their passion for skiing on perfectly groomed and perfectly snowed pistes at the start of the season.
The pistes of the Les Contamines ski area are spread over two interconnected subareas. The upper part offers skiers wide, well-snowed pistes with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Mont Blanc massif and other peaks of the Alps. The pistes in the lower part cross the coniferous forest from Contamines to the Montjoietal, where snowy farms, traditional chalets and baroque churches form a fairytale winter landscape. A true eye candy.
A family ski area with attractions for everyone
The village of Les Contamines-Montjoie consists of several villages on about 5 km of the Montjoietal, which was settled for the first time between Mont-Blanc and Mont-Joly millennia ago. The flagship of this 1,200-inhabitant village is its ski area, which is constantly being perfected to meet the needs of increasingly numerous skiers. In Les Contamines, however, you can not only ski, but also experience and admire a lot off the pistes. The whole area is a true open-air museum of history, where in addition to baroque churches and chapels also traces of the Roman road can be found. The nature reserve of Les Contamines, which spreads over 5,500 hectares between the village (1165 m) and the glacier of Tré la Tête (3892 m), is worth a visit all year round.
The very diverse flora, with more than 660 plant species, is the habitat for numerous species of animals (deer, deer, golden eagles, etc.). At the heart of this exceptional setting, Lake Jovet, Lac du Pontet and Lac de l'Etape, located on different levels, add to the paradisiacal ambience of this small Savoyard village. After skiing, you can enjoy moments of relaxation on the natural ice rink in Loyers, in the center of Contamines-Montjoie. A ski area with many faces, which is especially family-friendly, with its specially tailored facilities to the needs of the little ones: in addition to ski schools, there is also a kindergarten, where the little ones are taken care of , (eg reading, crafts, sports) and outside, the bigger ones can have fun sledding, sliding or snow-gardening.
