Les Carroz –The welcoming mountain village at the foot of the Grand Massif Les Carroz (1140 m)

logo

Along with the two ski centres “Samoëns” and “Morillon”, the skiing village of Les Carroz occupies the foothills below “Le Grand Massif” ski area, with its main ski station of “Flaine”. At a lofty altitude of 1140m, this small winter sports resort is easily recognisable by its typical Upper-Savoyard alpine architecture. Its relaxed village atmosphere, coupled with its reputation, “Famille Plus Montagne”, makes Les Carroz the ideal destination for a family ski holiday. Visitors to Les Carroz have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the simply breathtaking mountain landscape of the Grand Massif.

Les Carrozs itself has 37km of ski runs, but of course the resort is also directly connected with the main “Le Grand Massif” ski area, where skiers will find a total of 265km of runs, catering for all levels of experience. The selection of easy and intermediate-level runs is outstanding, winding their way along ridge tops and through tranquil forests.

Endless hours of enjoyment in the Grand Massif

In contrast to the lower slopes, the upper reaches of the Grand Massif, stretching as high as 2500m, are a popular destination for the most practised of skiers; particularly the runs setting off from Lac de Gers, Grandes Platières and Tête Pelouse. The 14km run from Flain down to Sixt Fer à Cheval, with its spectacular views of Mont Blanc as well as the nearby nature reserve, is a highlight not to be missed. Those looking for a real challenge can head for the “Diamant Noir” run, which descends an impressive 890m over a distance of just 3km.

Snowboarders will also find plenty to do in the Grand Massif, which includes two “snow parks” and even a specially designed “kids jam-park” for the younger boarders. Kids can also of course enjoy the facilities in Les Carroz itself, where there is a ski nursery, kid’s ski school, and dedicated children’s practice area with its own carpet lift.

Cross-country fans can catch a free bus from Les Carroz to the nearby network of runs at Col de Pierre Carrée, which is home to some of the highest, and most reliably snowy, cross-country ski runs in the entirety of the Alps. A further 30km of cross-county routes are on offer at Agy, just 10km away.

On the trail of Savoyard culture

Even though the Après-Ski atmosphere in Les Carroz might, on the surface, appear to be relatively quiet, food connoisseurs in particular will find themselves right at home. A range of bars and restaurants invite guests to sample the Savoyard cuisine, and enjoy a variety of typical regional dishes.

Les Carroz also offers plenty of things to do even without setting foot on the ski slopes. The wide range of activities on offer includes: paragliding, climbing, tobogganing, ice skating, or a ride on a dog sled or snowmobile.
