Ski paradise with 2 glaciers
Ski holidaymakers in La Plagne, who are looking for an exciting freeride area, also find plenty to suit them. The descent over the glacier Cul du Nant to Champagny is a real challenge, or the small north wall of the Bellecôte glacier. Therefore, in these powder snow areas, an experienced guide is recommended. The somewhat easier paths through the forest to Montchavin and Les Coches are ideal for the first freeride tours.
La Plagne also offers heavenly conditions for boaders. The snow park “Le 7 Cube” in the area Belle Plagne is divided into a beginner area and an expert area, and is equipped with jumps, tables, slides and a quarterpipe. Additionally, a 150-metre long halfpipe is waiting for freestylers in Plagne Bellecôte and several boardercross courses throughout the entire La Plagne skiing region.
For fans of the Nordic discipline, there are numerous routes including the lovely cross-country tracks at over 2000 metres. Almost half of the over 80 cross-country kilometres can be found in the Champagny le Haut area.
The special feature of the La Plagne skiing region: Thanks to the Bellecôte glacier, maximum piste pleasure is also guaranteed in summer, while one can look forward to guaranteed snow in the main season.
For a relaxing stay in La Plagne, all the high altitude ski resorts are positioned right around the lifts and additionally are connected by a shuttle bus until midnight. The entry to the large network of pistes is, therefore, possible at any time and from anywhere.
Finally, the access to the rest of the Paradiski skiing region is equally easy, with the high altitude resorts of Les Arc and the valley stations of Villaroger and Bourg St. Maurice. Between 3,250 and 1,250 metres, there are in total 425 piste kilometres, a second glacier and an additional snow park for winter sports people to choose from.
Aime La Plagne - The “snow steamer” in the Alps
As with all the 7 high altitude ski resorts of La Plagne, the lifts also start in La Plagne right at the house door, so to speak - particularly as there the ski resort is only made up of a few buildings. The huge main building, which brought Aime La Plagne to life in 1969, has be nicknamed the Schneedampfer (“snow steamer”) due to its unusual shape, and does indeed look like a gigantic cruiser in the mountains. The second largest building of the ski resort, built in 1990 by Club Med, is also formed in a unique style, whose architecture is inspired by a Tibetan temple.
However, both dependencies definitely have one thing in common. Because Aime La Plagne is the highest ski resort of La Plagne and also of the Paradiski skiing region, here ski holidaymakers enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over the Tarentaise valley, from one end of the Paradiski skiing region right to the other. The view includes the summit of Mont Blanc.
The second benefit for ski holidaymakers at Aime La Plagne: The accommodation is extremely comfortable in the “flag-ship” of the ski resort, in which there are around 1000 apartments. Finally, all the additional ski resort facilities can be found in the ground floor of the XXL building. That means: Guests in Aime La Plagne do not need to leave the building in order to be able to use the numerous bars, cinema and amusement arcade. Additionally, there are also a wide range of shopping facilities.
For leisure activities off the piste, Aime La Plagne offers an ice rink, which not only invites you to ice-skate but can also be used for go-karts. A toboggan run and snowshoe trails complete the entertainment offer.
By the way, should you feel like a trip to the neighbouring ski resort Plagne Centre, you only have to step into the free cable car Télémétro that connects both ski resorts until midnight.
