Peyragudes - The Sunny Family Ski-Region Peyragudes (1600-2400 m)

Peyragudes is one of the most sunny ski-regions in the Pyrenees and is surrounded by 5 majestic peaks, which tower above heights of more than 3000m. In addition to plenty of sunshine, the Peyragudes’ two slopes also provide a lot of snow throughout the whole season. This is not only due to the location of the ski slopes between altitudes of 1600m and 2400m, but also due to the use of over 200 snow canons.

There are almost 50 pistes scattered across 2 flanks above the two ski-stations Les Agudes and Peyresourde in the Col de la Flamme and the mountain crest behind it – which forms the axis of the ski-region as it were. Ever since the two ski resorts merged in 1988, the same-named dual-station has been refered to as Peyragudes. The Peyragudes has made a name for itself as an ideal ski-region for beginners and families, due to the fact that half of the 60 kilometers of pistes are of an easy level, and 40% of an intermediate level.

However, not only beginners and slow-paced skiers can get their money’s worth in the Peyragudes. Professional skiers, freestylers and off-piste skiers can also be pleased with the several challenges on offer.

Highlights for Professional Winter Sports Enthusiasts

From the challenging mogul slopes to the off-piste slopes and the Peyragudes’ Snowpark. Freestylers can find plenty of tables, boxes, hips, rails and further obstacles for all levels near the Aigles slope at an altitude of 2000m. In addition to this, there is a 2.6km long boardercross track, which has several adventurous steep turns and starts nearby at an altitude of 2200 meters.

The ski-slopes in Peyragudes are connected via a total of 17 lift systems, which also have their own practice lifts for beginners.

Besides the classic range of winter sports attractions, there are also numerous additional leisure activities in the snow, which are available to ski-tourists in the ski-region Peyragudes. Those who prefer nordic disciplines can explore the Pyrenees’ wonderful landscape on the 25 kilometers of cross country tracks or on any of the three snow-shoe trails.

A Mecca for Sledging Enthusiasts

Sledging fans are spoilt for choice at the „normal“ toboggan runs in both ski-resorts and at the special sledging range, where, for instance, airboards can be rented out as well as inflatable sledges, upon which you can lie on your stomach and dash downhill. The Kevlar edges allow you to steer the sledge during your ride and you can also climb the drag-lift on an airboard.

An exceptional group-sledging experience is guaranteed on the „Snake Gliss“, on which participants can slide in curves on sledges attached to one another like a train. A particularly athletic and innovative sledging option is the „Yooner“, a type of monoski with a stool, which enables rapid descents.

A dog sled tour, where you are pulled through the snow-covered winter landscape, is comfortable and yet thrilling.

Those who prefer a real adrenalin rush, should treat themselves to a snowmobile ride or try out „speedriding.“ Similar to kite-surfing, you are equipped with skis and a special kite and move half skiing, half flying over the snow.

Having the chance to take a look behind the scenes, as it were, is a special highlight for ski-tourists in Peyragudes – regardless of whether you are a passenger doing laps on a snow cat or on a tour with the slope attendants in the morning before the pistes open.
