Winter sports Mecca for the whole family
The generous and versatile slopes offered in the XXL-skiing region Les Sybelles are especially popular among families. The reason: About half of the 142 slopes are ideal for small and tall beginners, as the practice slopes and easier downhill are located with direct connection to the ski stations and you are therefore able to start right at your doorstep. A highlight for beginners is also the slope through the Vallée perdue, the „lost valley“. The connecting slope between Le Corbier and La Toussuire is not only an ideal starting tour, but also offers a winter panorama from a picture book.
Next to demanding slopes for advanced skiers, the skiing region Les Sybelles also offers several highlights for real professionals, like for example the Bartavelle-slope, that starts at the station La Balme at 2240 meters, or a black slope for professionals that also leads through the Vallée perdue, like the popular practice slope. The selection of quiet remote deep snow slopes was significantly expanded with the development of new slopes during the past years, expanding the offer for tour skiers as well.
The winter sports range of the six skiing regions of Les Sybelles of course also includes attractive options for snowboarders and cross-country skiers. Three Snow and Funparks in La Toussuire, Le Corbier and Les Bottières make the snowboarder heart beat faster. If you want to enjoy the unique ambience of the skiing region Les Sybelles on cross country skis, you can choose from a total of 20 kilometres of perfectly prepared trails between altitudes of 1.000 and 1.800 meters in St. Sorlin, Le Corbier and La Toussuire, among them cross country tours into the lonely high valleys of the Massif, for example up to the Col de Glandon or at the foot of the rocky Aiguilles d’Arves, 18 kilometres of skating trails, two trails that are six kilometres long and a high altitude trail at 1.700 meters.
By the way, Les Sybelles did not get its reputation as an especially family and children friendly skiing region only due to the huge selection of easy and medium-hard slopes. This is also due to the fact that all stations of the skiing region are free of cars and the small skiers up to five years receive a free ski pass throughout the region. The region carries the quality seal „Family Plus“. La Toussuire and Le Corbier offer a visitors kindergarten, a ski kindergarten and a skiing school for children.
Entertainment for every taste
As versatile as the offer of slopes, trails and snowparks is, the range of entertainment at the individual stations of the ski region Les Sybelles matches this all the way. The winter sports options apart from skiing range include paragliding, dog sledding over 50 kilometres of winter hiking trails and 30 kilometres of snowshoe hiking tracks all the way to snow scooter tours or several sledding runs in La Toussuire, Le Corbier and Saint Sorlin d'Arves. If you prefer more relaxing activities on your day off, Les Sybelles has a lot to offer also. While the more modern villages Le Corbier and La Toussuire boast long, heated store galleries on the ground floors of the multi-level apartment houses that are ideal for shopping, ski vacationers can follow the ways of tradition in St. Sorlin d’Arves and St. Jean d’Arves. Both villages are built in the typical Savoyian style with old farmhouses, small stores and original village life.
The gourmet should definitely try the culinary specialities of the Savoyian Alps, like Raclette savoyarde, Roblochonnade, and Tartiflette.
