The skiing region Chamrousse is mainly known for its Olympic slopes, where the Frenchman Jean-Claude Killy won no less than three gold medals in the winter games of 1968. Numerous further ambitious black and red slopes can be found mainly in the area of the Chamrousse-district Le Recoin underneath the peak Croix de Chamrousse. Easy and medium-hard slopes for beginners, families & Co. can be found on the slopes above the other village district of Chamrousse, Roche Béranger, including downhill runs through beautiful mountain woods and slopes for carving fans without trees. Special slopes for cross skiers, deep snow slopes and slalom slopes round off the overall offer of the skiing village Chamrousse.

A speciality of the Olympic skiing area: As the slopes above Chamrousse are sunny until the evening hours, ski vacationers are frequently able to enjoy their last downhill run of the day enjoying the sunset. Chamrousse lives up to its name, meaning “red snow fields“. If you want to enjoy the exceptional pleasure of a night slope, you can marvel at the sparking sea of lights of Grenoble on your way downhill.

Snowboarders have several funparks with many rails, kickers, slides, jumps and a halfpipe and a kids funpark available, next to the numerous deep snow options, so that Chamrousse is meanwhile also called „Espace Freestyle”.

Cross-country skiers can explore the beautiful area around Chamrousse on 55 kilometres of wonderfully prepared trails, like for example on a wooded high plateau at the edge of the village Roche Béranger. There is a skating trail that is 37 kilometres long for ambitioned athletics, and vacationers that bring dogs can use the dog trail. The Astragale, a 9 kilometre circular trail at an altitude of 1.600 meters is perfect for a longer day tour.

The award „Les p´tits montagnards“ that is only given to especially children and family-friendly skiing villages shows that Chamrousse lays great emphasis on being family friendly. Installations like a children’s practicing area, a visitors kindergarten and a children’s skiing school are a fixed part of the skiing area. Small skier up to an age of 6 do not need a ski pass.

If your preference is slightly more relaxed, you can take a winter hike with or without snowshoes or go Nordic Walking on one of the numerous hiking trials, test your skills on ice-skates and curling, visit the nearby ice waterfall and be impressed by this rare natural spectacle.
