The skiing region Font-Romeu, which is located at the heart of the regional nature park in the Catalan Pyrenees, connects two skiing areas together. On the one hand, the pocket of land in the ski-resort Font-Romeu, which has the same name and is regarded as the sunniest location in France with an amazing 3000 hours of sunshine each year, and on the other hand the area of land belonging to the neighbouring ski-resort Pyrénées 2000.

Together both areas offer 41 pistes for all levels thanks to their great networking with a total of 24 lifts. The 43ish kilometers of slopes are scattered across altitudes between 1700 and 2213 meters. Around 500 snow canons ensure the best quality of snow throughout the entire season.

Ski-tourists from both resorts can travel directly to the skiing area with just one gondola lift or chairlift. There are also various blue and red valley runs available in the Pyrénées 2000.

The range of cross country ski tracks is a particular magnet for visitors in Font-Romeu, which spans twice as many kilometeres as the alpine network of slopes – which makes the area the largest cross country skiing region in the Pyrenees.

A Diverse Range of Slopes and Cross Country Networks

There is something for winter sports enthusiasts of all levels on the ski-region’s total of 43 pistes. Young ski-tourists and beginners can find a practice area of 20 hectares in the middle of the ski-region in the Les Airelles zone at an altitude of 1964 meters.

In addition to this, there are 6 green pistes, a „dual-slalom“ slope, 2 mini boardercross tracks and a sledging slope for children. 2 drag-lifts as well as a mini drag-lift and a carpet lift are also available free of charge to all newcomers. Those who want to dare the real slopes after a few practice sessions, can also find several soft slopes, which are suitable for beginners.

Experienced skiers and true professions can be found primarily below the Roc de la Calme, the highest peak in the skiing region with a height of 2213 meters. There are delightful red pistes here on both sides of the summit. Many further black slopes start from a somewhat lower point, the Gallinera, at a height of 2127 meters and lead downwards over the north-east slope.

Snowboarders and freestylers will definitely not be bored in the ski-region Fort Romeu. The Snowpark below the Roc de la Calme alone consists of 3 different freestyle areas for beginners to pros. For the freestyle-newcomers there is a large practice area with various obstacles, whereas experienced freestylers can find a route with rails, boxes, 2 large air-rails and a boardercross track. A route with tables plus a route with rails and a connecting easier slope with kickers has also been erected for pros.

„DC LIVE PARK“ is the second meeting point for snowboarders in the skiing area. The special thing about this funzone: Upon request, freestylers can fasten a special sticker on their helmets, which contains a small chip. Through this the performance of the respective skiers or snowboarders is filmed by 2 cameras. Each of the stickers, which are available free of charge, is provided with an individual code. The freestyler can then easily find their film online with this code.

The enormous network of cross country skiing tracks in Font-Romeu is spread across 2 areas. There are a total of 11 tracks on the Plateau de la Carme, the highest cross-country skiing area in the Pyrenees between 2050 and 2213 meters, which all offer a spectacular panoramic view. Most notably cross country skiers can enjoy an unforgetable 360 degree view of the surrounding French, Spanish and Andorran peaks on the top of the Roc de la Calme. The Vallée de la Têt is the second cross country skiing area, which has 8 tracks that lead picturesquely across clearings and through woodlands as well as along the river Têt.

Outdoor Amusement to Suit All Tastes

In addition to the varied range of slopes and the even larger network of cross country ski tracks, ski-tourists in the Font-Romeu region can look forward to a diverse range of outdoor activities.

There are, for instance, numerous snowshoe hiking trails for exciting discovery tours through the wonderful countryside. These can be explored alone or with a guide, who knows his way around the place. As a special highlight, evening tours can also be booked, which end with a „Raclette“ meal and an adventurous overnight stay in an iglu, if desired. Alternatively you can admire the spectacular nature on a dog sled tour.

Those who prefer something a little more adventuresome, should not pass up the opportunity to go on a tour with a snowmobile, a climbing tour on a frozen waterfall or to go caving.

Nordic winter sports enthusiasts can choose to go on a taster laser biathlon. Snowboarding fans also have the choice of 3 different activities. 2 classic toboggan runs, the „Snake Gliss“ in a group, or a trip on the „Yooner“ - a type of monoski with a raised chair.
