All pistes lead to Flaine
From almost every accommodation in Flaine, winter sports people can immediately begin a varied day right on the piste in one of the largest French skiing regions, which is also considered to be particularly reliable for snow. Depending on how large the desired selection of slopes of all levels is, the immediate skiing region is available to ski holidaymakers in Flaine, with 140 piste kilometres and 31 lift systems, or there is the entire ski circus of Le Grand Massif with 265 kilometres of piste. For beginners, the gentle slopes in the heart of the mountain are particularly ideal, where predominantly easy to intermediate slopes lead far over the Alpine pastures and through picturesque forests. A highlight for less experienced winter sports people is the 14 kilometre long, and particularly scenically impressive, blue piste of Les Cascade from Flaine down to Sixt Fer à Cheval.
With increasing altitude, the pistes also become more demanding, like the steep slopes at the Grand Platières, with a height of 2,485 metres, and the Tête des Lindares. Here, beautiful beginner pistes can also be found, which emerge to be thoroughly harmless despite their names Mephisto, Faust and Lucifer. In contrast, experienced skiers can discover steep pistes and broad powder snow slopes almost everywhere narrow. Here, the slopes of La Pente à Jules or La Combe du Gers, a superb, guarded powder snow area are particularly recommended. The huge advantage of the ski resort Flaine is demonstrated on every piste - irrespective of whether it is blue or black. Every descent leads right back into the resort and therefore right to the house door, so to speak. Except, of course, if you decide to make a detour into the lower-lying ski resorts of Les Carroz or Samoëns via the Tete du Pré des Saix.
The unique panorama around Flaine can probably be enjoyed in the most relaxed manner during a long cross-country skiing tour. In total there is a 13 kilometre long network of cross-country ski runs available for every experience level, of which there are ten kilometres of skating tracks.
For snowboarders in Flaine, there is the freestyle park “Jampark Pro” with a huge offer of specials, such as a quaterpipe, tables, rails, walls and a boardercross course. Here, there is also the possibility of celebrating snow parties or organising a barbecue.
The young skiers in Flaine can look forward to a children’s practice area with magic carpet lift, a ski kindergarten and a children’s ski school.
From the piste into the museum or with the quad on the ice
The leisure and après ski offers in this unusual resort are varied as the winter sport art resort of Flaine itself. Whoever would like to spend a day off-piste has the choice between a visit to the art museum with library, video and multimedia room, a relaxation programme in the swimming pool with integrated fitness centre, or various action-packed activities.
This includes numerous snowshoe and winter hiking trails around Flaine, like for example the Col du Pierre Carrée, a ten kilometre panoramic trail offering a breathtaking view of the Jura mountains and the region of Lake Geneva. A lot of fun is also guaranteed on the ice rink, during ice climbing, on a snowmobile tour or a dog sledge ride. Furthermore, adrenalin pure is promised on a trip with the quad or car on a special ice route.
You can round off the holiday day perfectly in the numerous restaurants, bars and discos of the ski resort Flaine.
