The cosy skiing village of Les Houches lies right at the foot of Mont Blanc, at the entrance to the Chamonix valley, at an altitude of 1,100 metres. Only 6 kilometres away from Chamonix, one of the most famous ski resorts in the world, Les Houches has preserved its own original, relaxed mountain village character. Les Houches is a particularly ideal winter sports location for families who want to spend a refreshing skiing holiday in a small cosy skiing village that is nevertheless in the middle of an enormous skiing region. Guests staying in Les Houches can either use the village’s own ski resort or sample what’s on offer across the Chamonix-Mont Blanc area.

The ski resort at Les Houches ranges from a height of 950 to 1900 metres and has a total of 55 kilometres of runs. The ski runs in the Domaines des Houches on the slopes of the Prarion range from easy sections through to deep snow runs and world-class level pistes. Most of the pistes in the village’s ski resort go through larch and pine forests and end up right outside many of the hotels and holiday apartments.

From the practice area to the World Cup runs

There are 2 special practice areas for beginners, in the valley area in “Le Tourchet” or at the Prarion cable car end station.

Les Houches has particularly exciting facilities for professionals and boarders. There are 10 kilometres of marked trails in the “Chavants” area for cross-country skiers. Ski racers will definitely not want to miss the highlight of the legendary World Cup ski run, “La Verte des Houches”. Freestylers will also love what’s on offer in the Bellevue air park.

There’s also a good area for cross-country skiers, the “Domaine nordique/ski de fond du plateau du Prarion”, which offers 10 kilometres of top-quality high-altitude trails at the Prarion cable car end station.

For the next generation of skiers there is a crèche in the ski nursery in Les Houches for children from 3 months to 3 years or a Kids Club “Les Chavants” for children from 18 months to 10 years.

If you are looking for more than the Les Houches ski resort has to offer then it is easy to reach Chamonix, only 6 kilometres away, and access the ski resorts of Aiguille du Midi and Le Brévent/La Flègere, with 20 and 29 kilometres of runs respectively.

Using the Mont Blanc ski pass guests at Les Houches can also access 14 additional skiing areas.

There’s also plenty of action in Les Houches off the slopes. The range of winter sports activities on offer covers snow-shoe hiking, tobogganing, ice-skating and skijoring, as well as an adventure park and a climbing wall. For something a bit more relaxed, try a trip to one of the many goat farms in the area or have a wellness afternoon in the resort’s own spa.
