Chantemerle - The Sunny and Cheerful Ski Resort Chantemerle (1350 m)

Due to its location at an altitude of 1350 meters, the ski resort Chantemerle also bears the name „Serre-Chevalier 1350“ and is a district in the larger Saint-Chaffrey commune. Ski tourists who decide to stay in Chantemerle can benefit from the pleasant ski resort’s several advantages. Thanks to the moderate size of the small resort, holiday guests can easily reach everything on foot and leave their car behind for the whole holiday. In addition to this, by using just one gondola lift and 2 modern chairlifts, you can go right into the middle of the ski region Serre-Chevalier, which with 250 kilometers of pistes is regarded as the largest skiing region in the french southern Alps. Another benefit: The majority of the small resort’s accommodations are facing south and therefore provide the guests in Chantemerle with plenty of sunlight.

Diverse Skicircuit on the Outskirts of the National Park

The many long, easy slopes such as the „Briance“ or „Fréjus“ are particularly popular among beginner skiers. Safe turns can be safely practised in a relaxed atmosphere here and in the 8 special beginners’ zones.

More experienced skiers can look forward to more demanding pistes such as the „Casse du Boeuf“ and „Grande Gargouille“ or to the olympic slope „Luc Alphand“, which has an alltitude difference of more than 1000m. The renowned „Cucumelle-Piste“, which leads through several valley basins, plus the exciting slopes „Cibouït“ and „Tabuc“ are also recommendable. Those seeking untouched snow, will find it in the Serre Chevalier region as well. 9 so-called „Brut de Neige“ slopes, which are scattered throughout the whole district, promise ultimate deep-snow fun. Incidentally the Arva-Park above Monetier les Bains, where you can be trained in the use of avalance transceivers, is especially interesting for off-piste skiers.

In addition to 2 boardercross areas there are two spacious snowparks and a halfpipe that are available to snowboarders and freestylers. Cross country skiers can also choose from 8 cross country ski tracks, which are distributed along 35 kilometers in the valley.

The young skiers in Chantemerle are well looked after in the creche for children aged 8 months to 6 years old or in the ski-nursery and ski-school for 3 to 12 year olds.

An excursion to the sledging slope and to the ice rink or on the snowshoe hike through the thick woods around Chantemerle promises recreational fun for the whole family. A spa centre with bathhouses, sauna and a fitnessroom is also available to ski tourists. The brave may dare a paragliding flight and snowmobile trip or climb a frozen waterfall with climbing gear.

The many cosy bars and restaurants, as well as a cinema, disco and an arcade invite you to „après-ski“ in order to unwind after an eventful day on and off the slopes.

Special Tip: The historical small town of Briancon, which is also one of the Serre-Chevalier ski region’s ski resorts, is located 10 minutes away from Chantemerle by car. You should definitely not pass up the chance of visiting the „Town of Art and History“ that is famous for its Vauban fortification, which is now part of UNESCO’s world heritage.
