La Toussuire – a relaxed skiing holiday in a large ski resort La Toussuire (1750 m)

La Toussuire, a modern and completely car-free part of the vast ski resort of Les Sybelles with a wide range of leisure facilities, has become the perfect winter sports destination for families. This is not only because winter sports fans can step right out of their front door onto the piste, but also because the La Toussuire pistes offer many different types of slopes for skiers of all abilities. Thanks to its unique location in the centre of a plateau the ski resort of La Toussuire lies at 1,750m and has many hours of sunshine as well as a stunning vista. It’s also in the middle of the Les Sybelles resort from which a total of 310km of pistes can be accessed, with slopes for all levels of skiers.

In the La Toussuire ski resort, with plenty of snow and sun, there are 45 kilometres of pistes which are perfectly linked by 21 ski lifts. This means that a day on the slopes can both start and end at your door – it doesn’t get more convenient than that. If that’s not enough there is the rest of the Les Sybelles resort to explore, which links six ski resorts.

Fun on the pistes for sun-lovers

With a total of 310 kilometres of pistes and 73 ski lifts there is something for all winter sports fans. There are perfect practice slopes for beginners, wide generous pistes and several easy family-friendly slopes. For example, a perfect run for beginners is the Vallée perdue that links the ski resorts of La Toussuire and Le Corbier, and has a simply breath-taking landscape. Advanced skiers will also love La Toussuire. There are crisp mogul slopes as well as extra-long runs like the 5km long Grand Truc, just right for more experienced skiers. Skiing down the floodlit piste Petite Verdette at night is a fantastic experience.

Since the L’Ouillon and Les Perrons peaks were closed to winter sports fans there are plenty of opportunities for freeriders and powder snow skiers. Snowboarders can also enjoy the snow park on L’Ouillon with many obstacles like tables, slides and jumps.

A wonderful way to enjoy the beautiful landscape is to go on an extended cross-country ski tour. A good place to start if you want to explore the deserted high Massif valleys to the north is the villages next to Le Corbier and La Toussuire. We would recommend tours up to the Col de Glandon or going on foot to the rugged Aiguilles d’Arves. You can also go along the longest cross-country trail, Champ Perousaz, which is over 6 kilometres long. There are a total of 25 kilometres of beautifully groomed cross-country ski trails, including 16 kilometres of skating trails.

There’s plenty for the next generation of skiers in La Toussuire, who can improve their skills on the resort’s own children’s practice slopes, in the ski nursery or in the children’s ski school.

From après-ski shopping to paragliding

After a long day on the La Toussuire and Les Sybelles slopes guests can leave their skis at the door and dive straight into après-ski fun. As well as numerous bars, restaurants and clubs there are many shops and small businesses for keen shoppers to enjoy on the long heated shopping streets on the ground floor of the central apartment buildings.

If you’d like your stay in La Toussuire to be a bit more active then you are spoilt for choice, with lots of different leisure activities ranging from winter walks and snow-shoe hikes to paragliding and a trip on the La Savonette toboggan run. For the true hiking fan we can recommend the Ballade des Crêtes route which starts at the Bellard peak at 2,225 metres and runs for 20 kilometres up to the L’Ouillon peak at 2,431 metres. The 5 kilometre-long Les 3 Croix trail is ideal for Nordic walking.
