Les Orres - The Small but Charming Skiing Region Les Orres (1550-2700 m)

With 100 kilometers of pistes of all levels, a spacious snowpark, several cross country skiing trails and challenging off-piste possibilities, the skiing region Les Orres provides everything that a successful skiing holiday should need, in spite of its moderate size.

At a height of 1550 meters, the piste-district extends right up to the mountain crest, which connects the two summits Boussolenc and Aupillon. The ski-region Les Orres’ north-facing flanks lie at your feet from a maximum height of 2720 meters. A locational advantage, which ensures good snow conditions up to the late season. At the same time the area’s southern position, which lies on the same lattitude as Genua, ensures a whole lot of sun and a rather dry climate, which lets the snow stay longer. A total of 22 lift systems carry ski-tourists in Les Orres swiftly and without fuss to their desired point in the network of pistes.

With predominantly easy and intermediate slopes, Les Orres is an ideal skiing region for beginners and families, who are able to enjoy the beautiful tree-covered slopes. Ideal beginners pistes, which also lead through exciting larch forests, are most notably located below the tree line. In addition to this, there are several small practice lifts available in Les Orres 1800.

Funpark and Freeride Pistes Inclusive

Experienced skiers can get their money’s worth from about 2000 meters and upwards. On the one hand there are numerous long red pistes here, which start at the mountain crest and lead back to the resort. Including the longest slope in the skiing region the „Grand Cabane“ piste with almost 6 kilometers and the Boussolenc, Bergerie, Myrtilles and Clos Deguis slopes, which offer a spectacular panorama view of the the lower lying villages and the Serre-Ponçon lake. On the other hand, skiing pros can be pleased with a few real challenges, like, for example, the most difficult slope, the „L’Horrible“ piste, which is true to its name. Or the black „Pousterle-Piste“, which is also used for international competitions. Freeriders are also found at the highest altitudes of the skiing area Les Orres and can be pleased with numerous off-piste possibilities near the regular pistes. Moreover, a slalom slope has been constructed in the Bois Long chairlift area above Les Orres 1650.

Snowboarders and freestylers gather in the ski area’s snowpark, which is made up of 3 zones directly above the central skistation Les Orres 1650 near the Coqs-Piste. The boardercross track in the higher altitudes is of an intermediate level and laid out with numerous moguls and curves for 4 persons.

In the slopestyle area there are plenty of tables, hips, a straight jump, rails and boxes for various levels of difficulty. Freestylers from beginners right up to pros can choose the best course for them, thanks to the obstacles’ coloured labelling from green to black. The third area is especially for beginners; the „Snake Run“ through the forest. A „Chill-Zone“ with huts also is part of Les Orres’ snowpark.

Around 30 kilometers of cross country tracks, which are divided into 3 routes, are available to cross country skiing fans. The XXL cross country track from the Le Ranch district to the Gîte de la Draye lodge is especially recommendable. Cross country skiers should schedule 3-4 hours for the outward and return trip with a total of 24 kilometers. The exciting route leads right through the thick larch forest in Les Orres. Alternatively, the Mélézet district can also be chosen as a starting and finishing point. The third cross country track is a small circular course of 1 kilometer at Le Ranch.
