Morillon – a vast ski area offering an idyllic ski experience Morillon (1100 m)

logo

Morillon has all the hallmarks of a typical French ski village – with traditional timbered houses, typical of this area, clustered around the historic 16th century village church of Saint Christopher with its striking square tower. And it is the perfect place for those who are looking for a relaxing skiing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of tourist crowds but who still want a wide range of pistes to choose from. Directly connected to the Le Grand Massif ski area, one of the largest in the French Alps, the quiet, partially pedestrianised resort of Morillon s an ideal quiet retreat within a prime ski area with something to suit all tastes. So it is that from its beginnings as a tiny mountain vilage Morillon has developed into the modern and attractive ski resort we see today.

The Morillon ski centre is comprised of the original village, the hamlets of Les Champs and Le Verney at around 700 metres and the area known as Morillon 1100, located 400 metres further up. In total there are 31 kilometres of pistes and 16 downhill runs which are particularly suitable for children, families and novice skiers.

A resort of distinction – ideal for families

For an even greater choice of pistes there is also Le Grand Massif, to which Morillon belongs - a real paradise for skiers of all ability levels. With a total of 265 kilometres of great pistes there is something here for everyone: beginners, professional skiers and fans of freeride and deep snow skiing. As a rule the pistes become more challenging the higher you go but even in the higher areas of this resort it is possible to find easy and moderately difficult runs – an enjoyable way to appreciate the unique Alpine scenery of this area. Worth a special mention is the Piste Combe des Gers, an extremely challenging 2.5 kilometre freeriding course which descends from a height of more than 700 metres.

Snowboarders will enjoy the superbly-equipped funpark near the central station of Flaine and cross-country skiers are also very well catered for with an extensive and varied network of well-marked trails (several suitable for skating), covering a total area of 96 kilometres.

Morillon also has facilities for younger skiers, including its own kids’ practice area with a conveyor lift, ski kindergarten and a children’s ski school.

Those who fancy a break from the busy ski slopes may enjoy the chance to get their walking boots (or snow shoes) on and explore the wonderful countryside around Morillon.

Holidaymakers in Morillon generally enjoy quiet evenings relaxing in their comfortable chalets or apartments but those in search of a bit of après-ski atmosphere will find plenty of it in the resort’s cosy bars and restaurants.
